God's Protection

Psalm 17:8 KJV
...hide me under the shadow of thy wings.

I have thought a lot about wings as I watched birds soaring high in the sky. They seem to glide with ease on the wind. Wings give them the ability to soar and lift to fly away. There have been times when I would love to hide under the shadow of God's wings. Our weary spirits and hearts long to be lifted up above the troubles and trials of this old world. There is something about a picture of an eagle with out spread wings that reminds me of our Heavenly Father who wants us to abide under the shadow of His wings. The Bible has several verses about wings.

Psalm 18:10 says "..He did fly upon the wings of the wind."

Psalm 55:6 "..oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away and be at rest."

Psalm 57:1 "..in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be over past.

Psalm 91:4 "He shall cover thee with His feathers and under His wings shalt thou trust..."

There are many more scriptures that speak about wings, so God must have been trying to tell us something about burdens can be lifted at Calvary and we can find shelter and comfort under His wings of love.
